Topic: Preventing Torture
Torture is an inhumane activity that many countries choose to do in order to get information from a prisoner or terrorist and other people. Torture has been in existence for Centuries and many efforts have been taken to end it. Convention Against Torture (CAT) is one of the global efforts taken to stop torture. CAT is a document that ratifies torture around the world it was drafted and signed on December 10, 1984. Sometimes victims of torture are innocent and are there for killed because who ever is torturing them thinks that they are hiding information. Many lives have been killed or ruined by torture and the delegate from Sierra Leone thinks its time to end torture around the world.
Sierra Leone is not in support of torture because of the bad history behind it. Sierra Leone doesn’t have any history of torture recently. The only time there was torture in Sierra Leone was during the Civil war. After the civil war there hasn’t been any case that the government of Sierra Leone has sent someone to be tortured. Sierra Leone wants every delegate to know that Sierra Leone hasn’t helped any other country to torture anyone. So Sierra Leone is open for any discussion to stop torture.
The best solution to the torture problem is to form a new worldwide organization that will focus mainly on stopping torture. There is already an organization to stop torture but it isn’t as affective in stopping torture. The new organization will focus on stopping torture and discipline countries that are torturing people. Some of the action that will be taken to any country that is doing torture is sanction or to other action to be made.
